Image Splitter Printing Tip

Although Image Splitter split your photo accurately, printing is still a challenge because every printer has its own way of printing and truncates edges and slightly tweak the output.
=> Image Splitter and this tip help you overcome the drawback.

  • Use Overlap with Guideline feature.
  • Print in Full Page with Borderless option without ‘Fit picture to frame’
  • Print the exact paper matching the paper size.

When you try to put photos together you may notice that your printer truncates every side of the photo little bit. This will vary to each printer. This drawback exists for most of printers because Printer app is built for single photo print without considering putting photos together.

Because Image Splitter splits to multiple photos to put together, it is built to overcome the printer drawback and ‘Overlap’ feature plays an important role here.

Use both Horizontal and Vertical Overlap. If your printer truncates 1/8 inch (3-4 mm), at least 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch overlap works.
When you save, do NOT use the ‘Draw overlap guideline’ or select “(Partial)” Line Style.

  1. Paper size must match with your configuration used in Image Splitter.
  2. You don’t need “Fit picture to frame” because the splitted photo size matches the paper. This feature might tweak your photo if used. Also, the printer still truncates all sides of the photo slightly even though it’s checked.
  3. Use ‘Full Page Photo’ print option because Image Splitter splits the photo for ‘Full Page Photo’ (Borderless option.)
Please make sure your print supports this option before using Image Splitter although the most photo printers support this option.

Before printing, check print preview.

Print all split photos.

PPI (Pixel Per Inch), Printing Quality

PPI defines the print quality of the photo, often called ‘Image Resolution‘. PPI, Pixel Per Inch, means how many pixels will be printed on each inch of paper.
The more pixels is the better for printing in quality. When you print a photo to a Letter size paper with recommended 300 ppi, the file size must be at least 19.4 MB 2250 pixels x 3000 pixels. However, this is not always necessary when you print to a big size wall art with the Image Splitter that you enjoy in distance. 75 PPI may be enough.

High Resolution vs Low Resolution (Image source link)

Image Splitter App displays the estimated PPI on the bottom of the preview.

PPI is calculated based on the image that fits in the ‘Target Photo Size’. When Original Photo Size is in high resolution, PPI is high. When you zoom in, PPI decreases.

Why this does not work & annoying? The known issues for Bulk Photo Editor

Apply keeps failing on specific photo(s)

Here are some of the reasons causing this issue:

  • The photo file size is very big while you are using a computer with low memory capacity. Certain photo with high resolution or Panorama feature, it becomes big file in file size or dimension. Sometimes it only fails when you use “Tile” watermark because it takes lots of resource to draw tile for the big photo.
App needs lots of memory to process the file if you keep the original photo size. The possible solutions are
=> Use “Resize” option along with Watermark limiting the memory usage and photo size output.
    2018-12-27 11_19_37-Window
  • There is a photo with the same name in Target folder and it is opened by another application already. This prevents this app from saving the output. The possible solutions are
=> Close the application holding the file (and restart Bulk Photo Editor as well), then try it again. If this does not work, you might not find the right application holding it or Windows cannot release the file due to various issue. You better restart Windows and try it again.

App Crashes without any Warning

Sometimes app crashes while using. Here is why:

  • Windows 10 system terminates a running app if there is no resources to keep your app in memory. In this case, there is no way for an app to handle.
This happens mostly in mobile phone or a device with restricted memory usage when you configure watermark or apply to a large size photo or use “Tile” position option.
=> If this happens, try to use “Resize” option together targeting smaller size. It might work other options except “Tile” which requires more memory.

If it keeps happening any circumstance, it means this app is not compatible with your device or device configuration is not proper for this app. Please stop use it.

Annoying features

Here are some annoying features that I even bothered.

  • Why the app does not save the Source folder and Target folders, and selected image? And the previous location of file or folder selector?=> Each time when you restart app, it saves the previous configurations except those files and folder related settings. This is due to the file system security by Microsoft Universal Windows Platform (UWP) application. Windows does not allow it for security and we cannot save those in settings.
  • Why does the annoying watermark “Powered by Bulk Photo Editor from SkyOnTheWay.com” appear?=> If you click “Remove Ads ” 2018-12-27 11_12_31-Window menu and contribute by treating a developer to any of the options, the watermark goes away along with the ad.
We really appreciate your contribution. It helps greatly encourage us to enhance this app.

Allow user select specific photos instead of using folder (Completed)

For mobile users, it’s easier to select specific photos . For windows users using Source folder is way better because they can leave source and target folders open while editing photos.

=> It’s easy to select photos each time for quick and few photo editing.

2018-10-26 14_01_57-Help.docx - Word

Smarter Signature Positioning (Completed)

2018-10-10 12_07_56-Help2.docx - Word

You can drag to move around Signature to position in the photo. Currently it remembers the position from the Top Left corner.

In this example, signature is positioned right top corner. For panorama photo, the signature is positioned like above after calculation photo’s width/height ratio originating from Top Left corner.

However, you might expect the signature to be positioned on the Right Top corner no matter what width/height ratio photo is.

System can be smarter to detect your positioning preference and meet your expectation.

Also, we can add specific position that you can select without dragging by yourself, such as “Center”, “Left Top”, “Right Top”, “Left bottom”, “Right Bottom”, “Top Center”, “Bottom Center”, etc. System takes care of the position for you.

Image Watermark (Completed)

Current app allows only text signature. We can allow Image watermark. You can select image for watermark and configure the opacity, size and position.

2018-10-26 13_07_26-Help.docx - Word

Signature Text Alignment (Completed)

You can type multiple lines of signature text. However, there is no alignment such as “Right” and “Center”. Alignment option can be added.

Apply Result Image Viewer with Slider (Completed)

After applying to photos, you can view the result in the Apply page. You can scroll to navigate the photos like Windows 10 Photos viewer app.

This must be enough for this app because you can open Windows explorers to view all photos in the Target folder. However, we can improve the viewer navigation with slider which you can slide to any position of the photo to find a specific photo.

This viewer improvement can be added with new option that allows you to specify the Order of the photos. Photos in viewer could be ordered by Name or Date Taken or etc. This can help you navigate photos.

2018-10-10 12_10_03-Help2.docx - Word

Apply Result Image Viewer with Photo Information (Completed)

While you view a photo, we can display photo detail information along with it such as file name, Photo size, file type, resolution, etc.
